Freelance Instructional Designer

The Retail Learning Institute is seeking a freelancer who will be available for contract work for elearning course development for the Institute and its clients. The appropriate candidate should understand online instructional design, and interactive learning activities. The Institute has a Learning Management System (LMS) that anchors the career development, performance improvement, testing and certification activities for its 350,000 users in more than 30 countries.
This position will be primarily responsible for:
- Write, design and develop the course content, storyboarding, including graphics, audio and testing of e-learning courses.
- Create learning activities and exercises (simulations, scenarios, interactivity, and animation) that engage the learner and enhance retention.
- Collaborate with a multi-skilled team to create engaging online courses with voiceovers, video, animations simulations, scenarios, and games.
- Apply instructional design principles and adult learning theory in the design process.
- Develop web-based and mobile courses for the retail food industry.
- Research and analyze subject matter and designing with the right instructional tools for adult learning.
Required Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate possesses:
- Minimum of 3 years of prior training experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional design or related field. Master’s Education a plus.
- Knowledge of industry standards, learning modalities (such as ILT, VILT, eLearning, blended learning, coaching, mentoring, microlearning, mLearning) and instructional design models (ADDIE and SAM)
- Working knowledge of authoring tools (such as Storyline, Captivate), image editing (Photoshop, Snagit) and audio editing software (Audition)
- Strong proficiency with MS Office applications
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Retail/supermarket experience desirable
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
